Review By R. Paul Dhillon

Punjabi filmmaker Harjit Ricky directed Ucha Pind premiere at Cineplex Strawberry Hill in Surrey brought out a large crowd Wednesday night that included Surrey-based artists like Sarbjit Cheema and K.S. Makhan.

Punjabi movies have begun releasing with both Puada and re-release of Chal Mera Putt both doing good business given the Pandemic restrictions and audience wariness to come watch films in the theatre.

Ricky and his team are hoping that the audience that came out for the latter two films will come out for his jam-packed actioner.

Ucha Pind is Ricky’s most ambitious movie to date and includes a stellar cast of veterans and newcomer actor-story writer Navdeep Kaler, who makes a very good debut as the lead in this   Punjab-based land mafia-gangster flick.

The film about criminals in a wayward land may seem too familiar to genre fans but the cast of veterans led by Sardar Sohi, Ashish Duggal, Mukul Dev and Hobby Dhaliwal give the film that authentic quality needed for rustic gangster film. Many of the performances are also top notch.

The film could have used a better final act as the wrap-up is even more familiar than the basic tale of bad guys getting their communzppence from the new devil in town seen in countless Hindi and Punjabi gangster-Dakku flicks.

But gangster film genre fans will have plenty to enjoy as Ricky has employed top stunt choreography and producer Dimpy Dhillon has spent the Rupees for a lavish production! Definitely worth the watch!

Ricky Bhaji, who now resides in Surrey, is rocking and ready to roll in Canada on a new flick soon!
