Two People Sentenced In The Murder Of Surinderjit “Jack” Singh

A man and a woman who were charged with the murder of Surinderjit “Jack” Singh on March 4, 2023, in Maple Ridge have now been sentenced. On March 4, 2023, at 7:30 a.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a call after a deceased male was located in the 21800-block of 122 Avenue in Maple Ridge. Upon arrival, first responders located 55-year-old Singh of Maple Ridge deceased at the scene. On May 12, 2023, charges of second-degree murder were laid against Kimberley Buitenweg and Joseph McWilliams.

MAPLE RIDGE - A man and a woman who were charged with the murder of Surinderjit “Jack” Singh on March 4, 2023, in Maple Ridge have now been sentenced.
On March 4, 2023, at 7:30 a.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a call after a deceased male was located in the 21800-block of 122 Avenue in Maple Ridge. Upon arrival, first responders located 55-year-old Singh of Maple Ridge deceased at the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and continued to work in close partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP Detachment, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to further its investigation.

On May 12, 2023, charges of second-degree murder were laid against Kimberley Buitenweg and Joseph McWilliams.
On May 2 and May 27, 2025, Buitenweg and McWilliams pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter, respectively.
On December 8, 2025, Buitenweg and McWilliams were both sentenced to five years in prison for the manslaughter of Singh. The court also imposed a 10-year firearms prohibition.
“This was a tragic incident that has left a lasting impact on Mr. Singh’s family and friends,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “IHIT acknowledges the hard work and collaboration between our investigators and our policing partners that brought this case to a conclusion.”
