SURREY – The man who was critically injured in a shooting Tuesday night in Surrey Fraser Heights area has died and his murder may be connected to the murder of former local gangster Jimi Sandhu, who was allegedly gunned down by foreign assassins in Thailand last week. The dead man has been identified as Juvraj Jabal, a well known gangster who was convicted of trafficking in the 2015 case and sentenced to six months in jail. And he was again convicted in 2018 of trafficking two years earlier and sentenced to 12 months. Police have said Jabal’s murder is believed to be part of the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

On February 8, at 11:30 pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 16800-block of 104 Avenue. Jabal and a female were located in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to hospital, the woman in serious condition andJabal with life-threatening injuries.

Police said Thursday that the male victim has succumbed to his injuries and the investigation has been turned over to Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Investigators are looking at whether the Surrey shooting and now murder may have been in retaliation for the Sandhu hit in Thailand last Friday. Sandhu was part of the United Nations gang who used to live in BC before being deported in 2016.

Jabal, 24, was tpart of the Brothers Keeper gang and he subject of a 2017 civil forfeiture lawsuit filed by the B.C. government to keep suspected drug money that has been seized by police, according to a Postmedia story.

The Brothers Keepers is one of the gangs that has been at war with the UN for years. UN gangster Sandhu, who was deported from Canada for “serious criminality,” was shot to death outside his luxury villa on the island of Phuket in Thailand.

People connected to both the Brothers Keepers and the Wolf Pack, another UN rival, were celebrating Sandhu’s slaying on social media.

Earlier, CFSEU Sgt. Brenda Winpenny told Postmedia that police here were working together “to mitigate any potential retribution or violence associated to (Sandhu’s) death.”

Meanwhile, officials in Ottawa wouldn’t comment on whether they are investigating how Sandhu, 32, ended up with a fraudulent passport in the name of Mandeep Singh, supposedly issued in Saskatoon on Jan. 28, 2021 — five years after Sandhu was removed from Canada, reported
