Punjabi Film Industry Needs A  Wake Up Call. And it just got it from a newcomer!

Kudos to rising Punjabi film star Jayy Randhawa for calling out “Chors” of the Punjabi film industry and one particular film Distributor which has again and again been accused by film producers of ripping them off, including several Vancouver-based Punjabi film producers.

Randhawa accused this film distributor of playing the usual dirty games, in the case of his film Medal, delaying their release on Friday by doing dirty tricks with censor board paper work.

It’s good to see top stars like Gippy Grewal coming out to support Randhawa, who ultimately got his revenge by having his film drawing big crowds and first Day (Saturday) box office of 80 plus lakhs in India only, which is phenomenal as he is a new star with only one or two films under his belt.

But audience came out in large numbers and backed Randhawa and his plea that Punjabi film industry players should stop dirty tricks as it’s still a small industry which still hasn’t recovered post pandemic. Randhawa’s film’s 80 lakhs opening day is huge when you compare that superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s Jodi only opened to 95 lakhs first day.

The Punjabi film industry should work together to increase attendance at cinemas as its highly dependent on theatrical box office unlike Hindi which can get big returns post theatrical from TV, streaming/OTT to justify production costs!

Once again big congrats to Jayy Randhawa and his team for giving a big boost to Punjabi film industry and a big slap on this idiotic distributor. I agree with Randhawa - they are “bahut phede bande ahh”!
