VANCOUVER – Murder charges have been laid in the death of a South Asian man who was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in South Vancouver.

Vancouver police said a suspect has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing of a 19-year-old Naseb Fazil outside a South Vancouver nightclub last year.

VPD homicide detectives launched an investigation on May 23, 2022, following the death of Fazil, who was involved in a confrontation outside the Gallery nightclub.

That investigation led to the arrest of Mohammed Cortes Torres, 25, who was arrested Sunday has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Cortes Torres was a Surrey resident at the time of the homicide. Police believe he was more recently staying on Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Police thank Saanich Police for their assistance during the investigation.
