SURREY – There has been a rash of shootings in Surrey even though the City and Province are clamping down on violent crime and extortion related shootings that have plagued the city for months now.
Another overnight shooting has left a young woman, believed to be an Indian student, in critical condition.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) said Sunday they are investigating an overnight shooting at a residence that has sent one unnamed person to hospital with critical injuries.
At approximately 2:42 am SPS Frontline officers responded to calls of possible shots fired at residence in the 13000 block 103A Avenue, Surrey. Officers arrived and BCEHS paramedics were administering life-saving medical intervention to an adult female who was inside the residence at the time and had suffered a gunshot wound. She was transported to hospital where she remains in critical condition.
“(She) was inside the home at the time of the shots fired and was struck by gunfire,” Surrey Police Service spokesperson Sgt. Lindsey Houghton told CTV News.
“She was transported to hospital where she remains in critical condition.”
The suspect or suspects arrived in a vehicle and fired shots into the home, Houghton said, adding that no arrests have been made.
SPS’s Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation and at this early stage, are examining whether this is linked to extortions. SPS will be working closely with our partner agencies to determine if there is a nexus to other ongoing investigations.
Investigators are working to determine whether the home and the woman were the intended targets, which will involve interviewing other residents who were inside at the time of the shooting but were not injured, Houghton said.
Obtaining video will be “extremely important” for the investigation, and anyone who has home security cameras or dash cameras is being urged to preserve and review footage.
Anyone with information about this incident, or anyone who may have been in the area of 13000 block of 103A Avenue between 2:30 am and 3:00 am and witnessed the shots fired or suspicious activity, or has CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-89656 (SP) or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
