NEW DELHI – Is Yo Yo Honey Singh a wife beater? While he has yet to file a response but his wife has filed a wide-ranging case against him on Tuesday, accusing the top Punjab-Hindi rapper and music producer of domestic, sexual and mental violence among other things.

Singh’s wife, Shalini Talwar filed a case of domestic violence, sexual violence, mental harassment and financial violence against him in Delhi’s Tis Hazari court under the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act’. The case was registered on August 3, reported Times of India newspaper.

The Court has now issued a notice to Honey Singh to file his reply by August 28.

The Court also passed interim orders in favour of Shalini Talwar, restraining the rapper from disposing off his 'jointly owned property etc'. Honey Singh became a household name after his song 'Angrezi Beat' from the Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan film, 'Cocktail', became a superhit. The song topped charts in 2011. Almost all of Honey Singh’s songs are party numbers, loved by millions.

Honey Singh and Shalini got married on January 23, 2011, after secretly dating each other for almost two decades. However, his fans got to know of his marital status only in 2014 when Yo Yo Honey Singh introduced his wife to the world for the first time in an episode of a reality show.

This was around the same time Singh's name was being linked with a girl named Deana Uppal. Deana was a contestant on 'Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 5'. However, neither Singh nor his wife was bothered by these rumours.

In an interview, Honey Singh had summed up his relationship with Shalini and said, 'She is my friend and I will always listen to her no matter what because today I have realised that she is very important and always right about everything.'

The rapper is yet to issue a statement regarding the case filed against him by his wife.
