Indo-Canadian-Owned Gym Linked To 42 Infections Had COVID-19 Positive Patrons Not Giving A Damn
- November 15, 2020
On Friday, Fraser Health officially declared an outbreak at the Platinum Athletic Club at 7653 King George Blvd. after it was linked to 42 cases. Authorities are warning that anyone who attended the facility between Oct. 21 and Nov. 7 must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they were present. “How stupid is that you may ask – it’s totally moronic,” says one person who attends the gym but told DESIBUZZCanada that he stopped attending two weeks ago as the conduct of patrons and workers at the gym was becoming a troubling issue for him. “I saw it coming as people were out of control and trouble was brewing, “ the person told DESIBUZZCanada, choosing to stay anonymous. Many patrons and others took to social media to criticize the ownership for lack of care and cleanliness as well as other gossip related to club staff and ownership.

SURREY – With Surrey already hard hit with the increased spread of the virus and now over 40 infections linked to an Indo-Canadian owned gym tells us why as COVID-19 positive patrons didn’t give a damn and began showing up at the gym while awaiting test results.
“How stupid is that you may ask – it’s totally moronic,” says one person who attends the gym but he told DESIBUZZCanada that he stopped attending two weeks ago as the conduct of patrons at the gym was becoming a troubling issue for him.

Many patrons and others took to social media to criticize the ownership for lack of care and cleanliness as well as other gossip related to club staff and ownership. Text messages and audio recordings posted to social media allege many troubling allegations against staff.
“The site voluntarily closed on November 7, and will remain closed until Fraser Health completes contact tracing and follow-up site inspections, and determines that the business has adequate COVID-19 mitigation strategies in place to decrease the risk of future transmission of COVID-19 at that location,” the statement from Fraser Health reads.
A post on the gym’s social media says the outbreak has been traced to people who were at the gym after they had been tested, but before they received results.
“After many discussions with Health Authorities (sic) it has come to our attention that some COVID positive patrons had attended the club while awaiting their test results. As a result we have to continue to remain closed to work with Fraser Health.”
The gym voluntarily closed last Saturday, the same day the province implemented new restrictions in the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal Health regions.
In a statement on its Instagram page, the gym said “It has come to our attention that some COVID positive patrons had attended the club while awaiting their test results.”
Fraser Health says it has inspected the gym and is working with the company to improve its COVID-mitigation strategies before it can reopen.
