An Indo-Canadian man from Surrey has been charged in a townhouse fire in the Newton area. Amritpal Dhindsa, 22-years-old, has been charged with the following offences: Arson, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats and Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Dhindsa has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on May 3.

SURREY – An Indo-Canadian man from Surrey has been charged in a townhouse fire in the Newton area.

Amritpal Dhindsa, 22-years-old, has been charged with the following offences:

*Arson

*Assault with a Weapon

*Uttering Threats

*Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2

Dhindsa was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on May 3.

On April 26, Surrey RCMP said they had taken a 22-year-old man into custody following an arson investigation into a townhouse fire in the 12700 block of 66 Avenue.

Police officers along with the Surrey Fire Department attended the scene as multiple neighbouring residences were evacuated as efforts were made to contain the fire.

A total of three units were directly affected by the fire. There were no reported injuries to the occupants of the townhouses.

Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit conducted the investigation and worked with the Surrey Fire Investigator and Surrey RCMP Arson Investigation Unit to determine the circumstances of the fire.

The Surrey RCMP asks that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dash camera footage while in the area around the time of the incident, to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-58390.
