The City of Burnabi has honoured a revered Sikh human rights warrior Jaswant Singh Khalra by marking his murder at the hands of Punjab police on September 6th by proclaiming it as ′′ Jaswant Singh Khalra Day. Khalra, who fought for human rights in Punjab, was tortured in illegal custody by Punjab Police on September 6, 1995, which led to his murder. Sikhs around the world mark this day and commend the City of Burnaby including councilor Sav Dhaliwal for bestowing this honour on Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra.

Following Burnaby's lead, the Punjabi dominated city of Brampton also recognized the great human rights champion, who's great work is being remembered at a time when human rights are still being trampled in India and around the world.
