The annual Abbotsford Nagar Kirtan celebrating the anniversary of the opening of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the sacred text of the Sikh religion, was held last Sunday with large crowds in attendance. For Parks Canada historian Sharanjit Kaur Sandhra describes the event as the biggest Sikh celebration in Abbotsford. According to the City of Abbotsford, over 100,000 individuals took part in the celebrations on Sunday. The event started from the Kalgidhar Darbar Sahib Gurdwara on Blueridge Drive at 11 a.m. and made its way back to the temple in an hours long procession.
